Laser Treatment For Arthritis

Laser therapy is very quickly becoming an efficient defense mechanism against pain and other damage to the tissue. It is extremely safe, painless anda fast way to get rid of physiological diseases, particularly arthritis.

The term laser means Light Amplification by Stimulation Emission of Radiation. It is a pure form of light energy of a specific color orwavelength. The specific character of the light (wavelength) determines the medicalfeatures of the laser, such as

  • Healing capability
  • Energy
  • Penetration power -to act at an appropriate depth under the skin

Cold lasers of lasers with lower energy levels are mostlyused to heal patients suffering from arthritis. In laser therapy monochromaticlight emission from a low intensity laser diode or an array of high intensitysuper luminous diodes to treat musculoskeletal injuries, chronic anddegenerative conditions in arthritis.

Action and Mechanism

The light source is placed in contact with the skin allowingthe photon energy to penetrate tissue, where it interacts with cellularfunction; restoring normal cell function. It eliminates the action of bacteriaand under appropriate conditions triggers the cells to heal the synovialmembrane and subsequently maintains the right amount of synovial fluid. Thismakes the joints free and easy to move. Inflammation dies out gradually.

Short term effects

  • Production and release of body’s natural pain inhibitors
  • Trigger the body’s natural healing processes e.g. reduction in inflammation or repairing of synovial membrane etc

Long term effects

  • Improved cellular metabolism
  • Increased protein (building blocks of tissue) production, thereby healing joints.
  • Neurotransmission is facilitated, hence the coordination between muscle and bone tissue is facilitated

Mitochondrial activity is made better (hence moreenergy production to nourish the joints)
