Septic Arthritis
The main cause of septic arthritis is bacterial infection, following are the names:
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa can affect joints which has sustained prolonged punctured wounds
- Haemophilus influenza type B used to be a big cause before its vaccine was discovered
- Neisseria gonorrhoeae plays a role in causing the disease to sexually active people
- Group B streptococci infects the newborns
Osteoarthritis
Following are the causes of osteoarthritis:
- There is hereditary susceptibility, it has been seen that there is higher prevalence in siblings and identical twins
- Evidence has shown that fungal infections and allergies contribute in appearance of the disease.
- Ageing is a big factor
- Joint injury or overuse caused by excessive exercise and sports makes a person more susceptible
- Obesity strains the joints to bear more than normal weight, thus putting a person in risk
- Alteration of bone/cartilage structure due to rheumatoid arthritis increase the chances of Osteoarthritis
Rheumatoid Arthrtis
- Exact causes are still unknown however it is suspected that food allergies and infections caused by other organisms are mainly responsible. Molecular mimicry in which immune system can attack healthy tissue occurs
- Physical and emotional effects along with poor diet play a vital role in development of Rheumatoid Arthrtis

Reactive Arthritis
The main cause of reactive arthritis is bacterial attack; following are the names of the bacteria:
- Neisseria gonorrhoeae
- Ureaplasma urealyticum
- Salmonella
- Shigella
- Yersiniaspp and
- Campylobacter
Juvenile Arthritis
Similar to rheumatoid arthritis actual causes of Juvenile Arthritis are not yet known. However, certain viruses in the environment are thought to trigger the disease.
